I have LOTS of ideas about things we could do to this house.
Most of my ideas require unlimited funds, which sadly isn’t the case. So we are trying to come up with ways to get what we want without spending a fortune. Doing most of the work ourselves will certainly help keep costs down, but will also prolong the project. There are only so many hours in a day, there are only so many things I can do myself and DJ has a business to run, so that leaves us with nights and weekends to get a majority of the work done. We also have a family to raise, and I’ll be damned if my kids are going to suffer because of this huge project we got them into.
Having said that, there are some things that I absolutely want to do in the house.
A banquette built into the window corner of the kitchen is one of those things. It is something I have always wanted in a house.
How cozy and beautiful is that? For us, it will serve as the main dining area, not just a breakfast nook.
I’d also love to take on a DIY project and create a pallet futon/bed for the addition, which will be the kid’s play space. It can serve double duty as a couch for the playroom and a bed for when we have guests.
The backyard as a weird little hill on the left side, and it’s a bit of a landscaping design quandary. It’s also separated into two separate sections, which makes me feel like it needs two separate treatments. Because it’s on the side of the master bedroom, I am tempted to put in some sort of water feature, so we can hear running water when the windows are open. I’d also love to build a slide into the landscape, so the boys will have a built in play structure of sorts.
There are a million other ideas running through my head. I can’t wait to make some of them come to life, and to see what get reworked as the project takes shape.

Love these ideas!
The built in banquette is one of our dream house items, too.
